Breastfeeding Support in Prince George

Breastfeeding can be one of the most challenging aspects of motherhood, but you don’t have to do it alone. There are many different resources for breastfeeding support in Prince George, BC that can help you overcome the challenges and difficulties that arise, or simply provide you with the support you need.

Most of the breastfeeding support in Prince George is available to both expecting and new moms and continues to be available as you progress through your breastfeeding relationship.

  1. Northern Health Lactation Consultant.
    • Northern Health provides new parents with access to a specialized breastfeeding support person. Take note that she is the only Lactation Consultant for Northern Health providing breastfeeding support in person, telephone and email support.

  2. Northern Health Breastfeeding Support Group
    • Weekly supported hosted by Northern Health offering breastfeeding support in Prince George. This program is facilitated by registered nursing staff and offers the opportunity for mothers to ask questions, weigh baby, and connect with other parents.
    • Location: 1444 Edmonton Street, second floor
    • Hours: Drop in on Thursday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am
  3. La Leche League Prince George
    • La Leche League is an international organisation providing free mother-to-mother breastfeeding support. Meetings are held monthly as an informal discussion of sharing and supporting. Mothers are welcome to attend prior to the birth of their child and again afterwards.
    • If meetings don’t’ work out for you and additional breastfeeding support in Prince George is still needed, mothers can reach out to the local branch at any time.

  4. Breastfeeding Cafe (hosted by Jocelyn Logan)
    • Regular meetings are held once a month and facilitated by local Doula and experienced breastfeeder, Jocelyn Logan. Additional Toddler-related meetings are held on an “as needed” basis on Monday mornings. Follow the Breastfeeding Cafe on Facebook for up-to-date information.
    • Hours: Third Thursday of Every Month, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, $5
    • Location: Books & Company, Upstairs.
  5. Other Moms
    • Don’t be afraid to consider reaching out to other moms for support in your breastfeeding journey, but be careful as not all breastfeeding information is created equal.
